This novel relates the story of an intelligent woman whose insights and perspectives into life are ignored, rejected and even mocked at. Her unique thoughts only further the isolation that tortures her constantly. She struggles to reconcile their firmly established views with her own because she is primarily a human being and needs their warmth and acknowledgment to exist.

Humeirah, the protagonist of the novel offers a fresh perspective on life and its meaning as she goes through the most ordinary everyday events. She questions everything, is sensitive to the slightest movement in her environment, and can't help feeling nauseated by the emptiness, boredom and monotony in the people who surround her. She encourages the reader to empathize with her, despite her rather controversial and iconoclastic views.

Humeirah seeks recognition as a human being, rather than as a woman. Her perceptiveness allows her to see through everything with great clairvoyance but it also imprisons her in its embrace.  It prevents her from fitting into society and she often feels like a chipped piece of puzzle that has no place in the bigger picture of life. Humeirah yearns for freedom from the disorder and incoherence in her world. Yet she knows that it cannot be attained through superficial means like  isolating herself from society or escaping an unhappy marriage. 

Humeirah acknowledges the crude truth that we exist through the validation that we get in displaying ourselves to others.

She is therefore presented with a choice: either to play along and get the necessary “Yeahs” in order to feel loved or follow her own path of realization and face social disapprobation.

Humeirah decides to play along. She feigns it successfully at first but later on her skills give way to exhaustion. She is compelled to accept that her inability to fit in will always haunt her irrespective of the environment she chooses to be in.

Humeirah reaches her own nirvana by seeking answers, finding them, and only to realize that there isn't any point in doing so. She wants to unlearn thinking, do the “Great U Turn of life” where she can learn to depend not on reason, but emotions that open up to a whole new world. She learns to do away with rules that hold her and her thoughts down, and  breathe the air of freedom where intensity and passion are the patrons.
