Product Description:

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils… Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling's first novel for adults.

This is Jo first attempt at writing book for adults. I'm quite nervous with the whole idea behind the book. Not only it is targeted at adults but at the same time the book contains some political concepts (from the title and synopsis). I grew up reading the Harry Potter series and I always admire Rowling's writing ability in developing all the characters in her books. Knowing that she has this ability I'm absolutely sure that all the characters in The Casual Vacancy had been well-developed before she put any thought in publishing it. I'm not one of those typical Harry Potter fans that will keep hoping for Jo to write another book for the series. They all simply brag on the internet that this book will never going to stand out with the credibility of the Harry Potter series. Who cares, Jo herself had moved from her fantasy on the bespectacled boy wizard. It's time for us to move on to. It doesn't matter whether this book will ever be able to outstand Harry Potter books or not. I believe that this book will be a great reading material. I also believe that this book will become a great medium for Jo to breakout from the Harry Potter series. No matter how the book is going to turn out , I'll always be there to support Jo.
